What is Task Bundling?
Task Bundling occurs when multiple order items share the same bundle-enabled task on a given deliverable (e.g., matching language, resolution, etc.).
PDX allows for tasks to be bundled so that when the status is updated, it will be reflected across all order items. This typically happens when the same title is delivered to different platforms using the same assets.
Please note that Task Bundling is only enabled for standard orders and is not available for TitleLite orders, since Task Bundling requires a “pdsTitleID”.
The Advantage of Task Bundling
- Task Bundling helps to compact multiple tasks into 1 activity.
- Instead of having to assign a task 3 times to a user, the task across three order items can be updated in 1 go.
- If a new release is expected to air across multiple platforms, typically speaking, each deliverable represents the same metadata + asset.
- If we are delivering the same asset across all platforms, that asset may only need to be QC'd once.
How does Task Bundling work?
When an order item is first created, the system will scan all existing order items with the same title (across all platforms) to identify if multiple orders share the same deliverable and task.
e.g., if multiple order items have the same title, such as “Episode,” and share common attributes like “en” for language and a “Burned-in-Audio” task, the system will group them together as a bundle.
In the example below, OrderItem# 1042728 and OrderItem# 1042729 both share the same title, file, and tasks applied to identical deliverables (e.g., “Promo (cs / 9x16 / 720p)”). The system recognizes these similarities and bundles the tasks accordingly.
OrderItem# 1042728
OrderItem# 1042729
Across all the order items, if a user navigates to the task details page, they can expect to land on the same URL. This URL is considered the mastering page. This specific task will only appear once in the Task Dashboard, even though it is linked to multiple order items.
For instance, if two identical tasks are spread across two order items, the task will be counted only once on the Task Dashboard. However, the No of Orders field will indicate that there are two orders associated with this task, reflecting the total number of orders within the bundle.
Now that the task is bundled, any changes made to task fields (e.g., assignee, filename, task status) for one order will automatically update across all bundled order items.
Which Tasks Can Be Bundled?
Tasks can be bundled if they meet the following criteria:
- Same Title: The order items must have the same title going to the different platforms, using the same assets
- Matching Deliverable: The deliverable must be identical, including all attributes.
- Same Task: The specific task must be the same across the order items.
Currently, Task Bundling is enabled for the following tasks:
- Burn-in
- Burn-in Audio
- Burn-in Closed Caption
- Burn-in Forced Narrative
- Burn-in SDH
- Burn-in Subtitles
- Conformance
- Convert to DAMF
- Convert to HD SDR

- Convert to UHD SDR
- Convert to WAV
- Create Mezz
- Embed Closed Caption
- Finalize
- Localize - Dubbed
- Localized - Subbed
- QC
- Spot Check - MSTR
