Metadata Field Definitions

This article will define the different metadata fields a user will find throughout the title pages within PDX.

Note that some metadata fields occur in both film and television assets, and some are unique to one or the other.

The below data is grouped according to the type of program. 

 

Film metadata 

The metadata tab of titles is separated into three sections: the main metadata section at the top, the cast and crew section, and the "Other Info" section. The term definitions here are grouped similarly.

  • Original Release Title - The title the content was originally released as.
  • Display Name -This is the original title, as it should be displayed on the platform.
  • Security Title - Indicate the level of confidentiality or the security measures that should be applied to a film. 
  • Version Display Name  - How this version (ex., Uncensored) should be displayed at the platform (ex., Roger's Movie - Uncut)
  • Franchise Name - The franchise related to this content.

  • Production Number - An internal ID used in the production.
  • Thumbnail Url - Provide a thumbnail image to be associated with this Feature.
  • Vendor ID—A user-generated ID used to track the title as it is delivered to the retailer.
  • Provider Title ID  - This is an internal identifier for the title. Most people use a Vendor ID.
  • Production ID - An internal ID used in the production
  • Short Synopsis - Provide a short description explaining the plot or premise of the film. It should be no longer than 1000 characters.
  • Long Synopsis - Provide a longer description explaining the plot or premise of the film in more detail.
  • Genres - Genre type of asset (ex. Drama or Comedy)
  • Themes - Theme of the title (ex. Teens, Society)
  • Rating System - If the movie has been rated, specify under what rating system (ex., in the US, it's MPAA)
  • Rating - Rating of the title (ex. PG-13)
  • Rating Advisory - Rating Advisories are used to describe why a Title may have a specific rating. (ex., for au-tv rating it's A).
  • Reason - Reason the asset received its rating (ex. Brief nudity)
  • Digital Release Date  - The date a program was released digitally (ex., on Netflix)
  • Physical Release Date  - The date a program was released on physical media (ex. DVD)
  • Theatrical Release Date - The date when a title was first released in movie theaters
  • Network - The network where a program originally appeared
  • Program Length - Length of program in minutes (ex. 30 minutes)
  • Program Runtime - Runtime of a program (ex. 01:25:16)
  • Color - Specify whether a program is black and white or full-color
  • Is Original - Specify whether a film is an original creation or not
  • CC Available - Specify whether or not CCs are available for the program
  • Copyright - Specify the copyright status of a program
  • Production Studio - The studio that produced the program
  • Production Country - The country where a film was produced
  • Keywords - This is an open field where users can add keywords and phrases associated with the title
  • Cast - Information about actors in the program
  • Crew - Information about the crew involved in the production of the program

Cast and Crew Metadata

  • Credit Type - Person's role (Actor, writer, director, etc)
  • Crew Name - Name of person 
  • Character - Name of character
  • DOB - Date of Birth of Cast/Crew
  • Image - Image of actor or character
  • Catalog - Catalog where an actor is listed 
  • Catalog ID - Actor's unique identifier

 Other Info Film Metadata

  • Feature PDS Title ID - This is generated at the series level when a title is created in PDX. It would not be available when a title is created initially but should be available when an update occurs.
  • Original Spoken Language - The primary language in which the title was originally created.
  • Country Of Origin  - The country where this title was created
  • Default Locale - Refers to the pre-set regional and language settings used by a film, and format information according to a specific geographic and cultural context.
  • Feature External IDs - Any IDs that are generated and managed via a 3rd party. The main 2 examples here are EIDR L1 and EIDR L2.

Extended Attributes

The Extended Attributes section displays additional system-generated metadata associated with the title. These attributes may be provided by integrated systems, such as Escher, or created during title processing.

The information is displayed in three columns:

  • Key: The name of the extended metadata attribute.
  • Position: The sequence or index of the attribute . A dash indicates that no position is assigned.
  • Value: The value currently associated with the attribute. A dash indicates that no value is available.

Extended attributes may include distribution version identifiers, content types, organization ownership, servicing and preservation permissions, publication identifiers, watermark dates, and the date and time the metadata was last updated.

Select the arrow in the upper-right corner to expand or collapse the section.

 

Platform Specific Fields

The Platform-Specific Fields section displays metadata requirements associated with each delivery platform for the selected title. Each platform appears as a separate expandable row.

Select a platform name or the arrow icon to view and update its platform-specific metadata fields. Use Expand All to open all platform sections at once.

 

Television metadata 

First, here are metadata terms from the top section of the television metadata page. Next are terms from the cast and crew section. Finally, there are definitions of terms from the "Other Info" metadata section of the title metadata page.

  • Original Release Title - Title content was originally released as
  • Display Name - This is the original title, as it should be displayed on the platform
  • Security Title - Indicate the level of confidentiality or the security measures that should be applied to a TV show. 
  • Version Display Name  -How this version title (ex. Uncensored) should be displayed on the platform (ex. Roger's Movie - Uncut)
  • Franchise Name - The franchise related to this content. Click for more info on what a franchise means in this context here
  • Sub Season Number - The subdivision within a television show's season. 
  • Episode Number  - Number of an episode as it exists in a season
  • Sub Episode Number -  The subdivision within a main episode of a television show or series.
  • Production Number  - An internal ID used in the production.
  • Series Thumbnail URL - Provide a thumbnail image to be associated with this series. Simply cut and paste the corresponding URL in the box provided.
  • Episode Thumbnail URL -Provide a thumbnail image to be associated with this episode.
  • Production ID - An internal ID used in the production This is a provider generated ID. It is an ID used to track a title while it is in production. 
  • Provider Title ID  - This is a provider's internal identifier for the title. Most people use a Vendor ID.
  • Vendor ID  - User-generated ID that is used to track the title as it is delivered to the retailer.

  • Original Air Date  - The date the episode originally aired
  • Original Air Network
  • Network  - The network where the program originally appeared
  • Program Length - Length of program in minutes (ex. 30 minutes)
  • Program Runtime - Runtime of a program in hours, minutes, and seconds (ex. 01:25:16)
  • Color - Specify whether a program is black and white or full-color
  • CC Available - Specify whether or not CCs are available for the program

Television "Other Info" Metadata

  • Season PDS Title ID - This is generated at the season level when a title is created in PDX. This would not be available with the initial creation of a title, but should be available when an update is occurring. 
  • Episode PDS Title ID: This is generated at the episode level when a title is created in PDX. This would not be available with the initial creation of a title, but should be available when an update is occurring. 
  • Series External IDs - External IDs related to series (related to specific platforms)
  • Season External IDs - External IDs related to the season (related to specific platforms)
  • Episode External IDs - External IDs related to the season (related to specific platforms) 
  • Country Of Origin  - The country where this title was created
  • Original Spoken Language - The original spoken language of the title
  • Default Locale - Refers to the pre-set regional and language settings used by a TV show and format information according to a specific geographic and cultural context.
