Within PDX, assets can have various video resolution formats. Below are some of the definitions of the video types that are allowed:
- High Definition
- High definition (HD) resolution is high definition quality resolution. The resolution refers to a pixel height of either 720 or 1080 pixels. The frame is more detailed than that of a standard definition resolution, but less than that of a 4K image.
- Within PDX, 720 is not an acceptable resolution, so HD assets will be all be 1080 pixels.
- Standard Definition
- Standard definition (SD) resolution is standard quality resolution. The resolution often refers to a pixel height of 480 in a single image. The frame is more detailed than that of a 360p, 240p, or 144p image, but less detailed than one that is 720p or 1080p.
- Within PDX, anything less than 480 is not acceptable, so all SD assets will be 480 pixels.
- Ultra High Definition
- Technically, "Ultra High Definition" is actually a derivation of the 4K digital cinema standard. However, while your local multiplex shows images in native 4096 x 2160 4K resolution, the new Ultra HD consumer format has a slightly lower resolution of 3840 x 2160. This is one reason why some brands prefer not to use the 4K label at all, sticking with Ultra HD or UHD instead. However, the numerical shorthand looks likely to stick.
- Within PDX, UHD refers to 3840 x 2160.
