In this article, we will explore the Needs Metadata page in Asset Ingest. From the Needs Metadata page, users can easily view and update all PDX assets that are missing metadata.
Users can update individual asset data, but also metadata of multiple assets at once, if the metadata being added applies to multiple assets. We'll also provide information on the various fields and what they can be used for.
Navigating Needs Assets
The information on the Needs Metadata page is divided by provider and type of asset.
On the left of the page is the list of providers with assets pending title.
To the right of those providers are the number of assets pending title in each of eight categories.
- All Types - All Assets for that provider.
- Video - Video Assets.
- Audio - Audio Assets.
- CC/Sub - Close Captions and Subtitles, but also includes Forced Narratives and SDH Assets.
- Image - All title artwork assets.
- Doc - Documents associated with open orders.
- QC Report - Reports provided when checking assets for quality control.
- Other/Unknown - Assets that don't fall in the above categories.
- Font - Font files used with assets
- Archive/Project - .tar or archive file formats that represent large amounts of work that need to be unpacked and ingested.
Clicking on any number from this graph, including in the bolded total section, will load all corresponding assets at the bottom of the page. In the image below, the user has filtered the list of providers to a select set of multiple providers.
From the list of assets that appear, one can choose to change several at a time by clicking the check mark icons on the left.
Next to that is the little paper icon the user can click to check or leave notes.
In this category, under Asset type, there may be an alert in red advising on how many required fields of metadata are missing for that asset.
For title, one will either find the title the asset is for, or a blue “Select Title” button. If the title has already been selected, clicking on the blue text will redirect to the title's metadata page.
To the far right is the Metadata. Clicking on the blue “Update” button brings up the Asset Details pop up window.
Update Asset Details
From the Asset Details window, one can view and edit all metadata for this asset. Required metadata will only be found in the Video/Image Properties and Audio Channel Matrix tabs. In the image below, the categories are collapsed.
Displaying Only Missing or Required Fields In Asset Details
To view only Required or missing fields, click on either slider located at the top of the Asset Details window.
Clicking on the little arrow icons on the far right side of the window to expand any of the asset detail forms.
Though one can update any of the boxes that are left blank, the required fields will be marked in red, unless there are multiple Assets selected. In which case, one will need to check the individual asset first and make note of the missing metadata that needs to be updated.
Below the metadata fields are three buttons, Send to Triage, Needs Mastering, Needs title, clicking on one will send asset to the corresponding queue to be updated.
In the bottom left of the window are two more buttons.
- Clicking on “Restore” will download the asset from our storage server onto our working server for production use.
- While “Download Proxy” allows viewing and download a much compressed version of a visual asset that is stored.
On the upper left of the Asset Details window is the orders tab. Clicking on that tab, a user will be able to view all orders associated with the asset, what status it's in, and any notes the order may have.
Once finished filling out the required metadata fields, in the lower right of the window, click on Save to save changes or publish to make changes permanent in PDX and move asset out of queue.
Action Buttons
Back on the main Needs Metadata Assets by Provider page, to the Right of the Screen, above the list of assets, are two gray buttons.
- Clicking on the one with the magnifying glass icon allows a user to type in and search keywords to more easily filter through the search results.
- The arrow pointing to the side icon is the CSV Report button. Clicking on it allows the user to download a report with all information on the asset by provider page.
When one or more assets are marked with the blue checkmark, two more icons appear.
- The trash can icon will delete assets selected.
- The Publish button will make changes permanent in PDX and move asset selected out of queue.
